ESG

ESG

The path towards sustainable business is filled with challenges. Societal demands and expectations can cause organisations to lose their way. We help you give concrete shape to ESG and translate complex regulation and societal expectations into clear, workable solutions.

From sustainability and social and societal responsibility to strong governance: we support you in managing risks and seizing opportunities. In doing so, we ensure that ESG does not remain abstract but becomes practically applicable to your organisation and day-to-day operations, today and tomorrow.

What does ESG entail?
ESG stands for Environmental, Social & Governance and concerns the way in which organisations deal with the environment, sustainability, social and societal responsibility, and sound governance. It encompasses themes such as climate and energy use, working conditions, diversity and human rights, and robust, future-proof governance.

ESG has developed into a key framework for sustainable, socially responsible and future-oriented business operations. It connects financial performance with broader societal responsibility and the creation of long-term value for both the organisation and its stakeholders.

Examples of ESG themes on which we advise clients include:

  • ESG litigation – civil liability and collective actions in connection with environmental issues such as nitrogen emissions, PFAS and other environmentally harmful activities.
  • Sustainability clauses in contracts – green contractual provisions in commercial agreements, including cooperation agreements and real estate contracts.
  • Governance focused on the sustainable continuity of the organisation – assisting with the design of stable and future-proof governance structures in shareholders’ agreements and articles of association, succession planning in family businesses, steward ownership, and employee participation.
  • Remuneration transparency, equal treatment and diversity – social governance topics relevant in employment law, as well as in due diligence processes.
  • AI and automated decision-making – risks of discrimination or unlawful decisions, linked to social and governance aspects.

Our strength lies in connecting our various areas of expertise. We work closely with you and other relevant stakeholders to ensure that legal solutions align with practice and contribute to sustainable and future-proof developments.
