Mr. E.F. Verheul

Emil

Acamedic research employee

Emil Verheul has worked as research staff at Wijn & Stael since 2019. He supports the attorneys in the Supreme Court Litigation section with his analysis of cases and the writing of procedural documents. These cases cover a wide variety of branches of the law, with an emphasis on insolvency and securities law.

Academic and creative
Emil is excited by questions of law to which there are, as yet, no clear answers. These challenge him to think creatively, to make comparisons with other cases or to examine how other legal systems deal with these questions. “Cassation cases are almost always challenging puzzles, both as far as the substantive points of law and as regards the technique of cassation. I really enjoy solving these puzzles, especially if there is a lot at stake. In doing so, I make use of my academic approach, my creativity and my strategic vision.”

Eminent publications
Emil graduated cum laude with a dissertation on the retention of title. He publishes on a wide variety of subjects and in 2017 he won the Vereniging voor Burgerlijk Recht (Civil Law Association) publication prize for a published work on the transfer of contracts.
