Koen Rutten is a tenacious and enthusiastic lawyer with wide experience as a corporate and financial litigator. Following a number of years working for a large firm in Rotterdam, he decided to join Wijn & Stael in 2006.
He specializes in advising and litigating on disputes relating to business law. He regularly represents the interests of large and small companies, shareholders, executive directors and supervisory directors in liability proceedings. He also advises on aspects of corporate governance. He assists parties in acquisition disputes, inquiry proceedings before the Enterprise Division and international and national arbitration cases.
As a financial litigator, he also specializes in the liability of financial institutions and financial regulators. He represents the interests of duped investors and litigates in class actions. For example, together with Willem Jan van Andel, he is representing a large group of deposit holders discriminated against in the insolvency of DSB Bank. He is also acting on behalf of a large number of investors duped by René van den Berg in proceedings against ABN Amro Bank. Previously he successfully represented 110 account holders in the insolvent Van der Hoop bankiers N.V.
He is a member of the Corporate Litigation Association, the Securities Law Association and the Association of Civil Law, and he publishes (among other) als a regular contributor of the Journal of Corporate Law Practise (TOP). He is also active for Lawyers for Lawyers and the Giving Back Foundation.
