Willem Jan van Andel joined Wijn & Stael in 1990. He is ‘a well-known player in the insolvency field, and is noted for his high-quality work and client-friendly attitude (…) and superb skill’, according to Chambers and Partners, the international league table of best lawyers, which places him among the top three in the Netherlands in the area of insolvency law and restructuring. He acts as lawyer on behalf of financial institutions, executive and supervisory directors, shareholders, accountants and groups of creditors. For example, he is acting on behalf of duped savers at DSB and duped investors at Van den Berg.

He has an excellent grasp of figures and analytical ability. His mathematical background, wide-ranging interest in social issues, keen analysis and considerable drive earn him wide praise. These talents make him not simply a good lawyer. Willem Jan is also asked to carry out inquiries for the Enterprise Division. He is also regularly appointed by the court in major moratorium and insolvency cases, such as Econcern and Landis. As a result, he is thoroughly familiar with all the issues that large companies, their shareholders, executive directors and supervisory directors may be confronted with.

He publishes in professional journals and is editor of the Tijdschrift voor Insolventierecht (Insolvency Law Journal). He is also chairman of the Insolvency Law Committee of the Netherlands Bar Association. Willem Jan is a member of INSOLAD.
